HESNI is headed to a site tour of Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital with Power Construction!
Join us on November 18th for a networking lunch, followed by a presentation and a tour of multiple buildings. Power/Ujamaa Construction, Northwestern, Smith Group and Stantec will present on the specific design challenges and complexities of working on these projects, which include planning for expanded clinical space, specialty care, and the infrastructure to support the additions. After the presentation, we will be escorted on a tour through the central utility plant and then multiple floors, including the rooftop of the new pavilion.
The AEC Team consists of Smith Group and Pelli Clarke & Partners; Stantec, Bleck Engineers, and Lassen Associates; and Power/Ujamaa Construction. This team has completed a new parking garage, central utility plant upgrades, and 2 new patient care pavilions for the hospital. This 335,000-square-foot renovation and expansion project includes two new four-story pavilions—G and H—totaling 290,000 square feet, along with a 45,000-square-foot renovation within the existing hospital. Each pavilion features one below-grade level and three above-grade levels, accommodating 96 new inpatient beds, a relocated and expanded emergency department, a new helipad, and essential support services such as a laboratory, pharmacy, and kitchen. In addition, as part of the bed expansion initiative, a new parking garage has been constructed to replace surface lots repurposed for the G and H Pavilion additions. Located adjacent to the central utility plant, the garage offers approximately 900 parking spaces and serves both the new pavilions and nearby medical office buildings.

Parking: Park in the designated garage only on the top level. See attached map. Lot 8. NOTE: WESTMORELAND ROAD IS OPEN (Construction has been completed).
Meeting Space: New Pavilion G&H located at the South end of the waterfall and reflecting pond. We will meet in what will be the Ambulance Bay. See attached map for location (Westmoreland will be open).
Agenda (subject to change):
- Noon – 12:30 p.m. – Registration and networking. Lunch will take place during the presentation. Boxed lunches served.
- 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. – Welcome, announcements and presentation by Power/UJAMAA Construction, Northwestern, Smith Group and Stantec (lunch and learn style).
- 1:45 – 2:45 p.m. – Tour LL - Rooftop (weather permitting) of the G&H Pavilions
- 2:45 – 3:30 p.m. – Tour Central Utility Plant
- 4:00 pm – Optional networking happy hour at The Silo (625 Rockland Rd, Lake Bluff, IL 60044). This is a non-sponsored event with a cash bar/food. The Silo is approximately 2 miles North (5-minute drive) of the hospital.
